The Rhino Ark is a conservation project in Kenya’s Aberdare Mountain range. A 400km electrified fence, completed in 2009, was built around the entire mountain range, and encloses and protects 2,000 square km of indigenous forest, vital water catchment areas, and the endangered black rhino and other wildlife of the Aberdare National Park.
Raitt Orr is publicising this initiative as a blueprint for integrated forest / wildlife ecosystem management in Africa.
Drawing their inspiration and practical experience from the success of the Aberdare Fence, two new projects, the fencing of Mount Kenya and Mau Mount Eburu have recently been launched and are progressing well.
